Mention the word “public schools” and you are likely do have a wide range of opinions. Unfortunately, many of these judgements tend to be negative in nature as shown by a recent 2016 Gallup poll indicating that only 30 percent of the participants claimed to have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in public education.
A quick look through your social media feeds or a simple search online about Oklahoma public school will find most comments or articles concerning public education to be negative or fearful. As we begin next school year facing a challenging budget situation resulting in teacher layoffs, less course offerings, and a host of other concerns we fear this trend will continue. However, MOST happenings in todays public schools are positive in nature; unfortunately these positive stories often do not make it to the surface.
This is where #myschoolrues attempts to fill the gap. We must hear more from parents who have watched their child blossom as a result of wonderful influences of our dedicated education professionals. We must hear more from teachers proclaiming the fulfillment and joy they have working with students. And we must hear from the students themselves, the consumers of education, and hear their stories of how our Oklahoma education professionals invest their time and energies into allowing them to reach their full potential.
